      GREER - C. T. "Cal" Whitney, a former Montana stagecoach driver who, with his wife, Eva Ruth, opened and operated teh Arcadian Nursing Home here for many years, died Saturday morning at the Orofino Convalescent Center. He was 85.
      Born Nov. 10, 1892, at Harbor Beach, Mich., to Neil and Emma Whitney, he moved with his parents to the West Fork of the Bitterroot River near Darby, Mont.
      He attended school at Hamilton, worked as a cowboy and drove a stagecoach from Wisdom to Divide, all in Montana. He married Eva Ruth Welcome at Missoula July 27, 1917. They moved to California in 1920 and he worked in the oil fields. In 1923, they moved to Winnemucca, Nev., where Whitney established a motor freight line he operated for 10 years. After selling the freight line, he and his family returned to Montana and at Hamilton he bought and operated the Ravalli Motor Freight Line. It operated between Hamilton and Butte.
      In 1946, the Whitneys moved to Orofino, buying a ranch on Lower Ford's Creek. The next year they sold the ranch and bought the former Erb residence at Greer which they turned into the Arcadian Nursing Home. They operated the home until January 1966, when they retired.
      Mrs. Whitney died April 22, 1968.
      Whitney is survived by two daughters. Betty Davis of Colfax and Ruth Bird of Greer, a sister, Mrs. Edwin Ash of Missoula, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A daughter Marjorie Davis, died in 1956, and the Whitneys raised her son, Leonard Davis of Boise.
      The Funeral will be held Monday at Gilbert's Funeral Chapel at Orofino with the Rev. Arthur W. Edwards of the Orofino United Methodist Church officiating.
      Burial will be at the Colfax Cemetery with graveside services there at 1 p.m.
